wiifm skype?
Jul 21
so i get this email from skype the other day and the subject read “Skype would appreciate your time.”
before opening the email, i knew it was a survey.
i normally don’t mind completing surveys for products or services that I use. i like the idea that a company will ask for my feedback to improve a product that i already enjoy.
and skype had me on-board. rowing. until i saw that they wanted 10 minutes of my time!
are they crazy?
- 10 minutes is a long time to do anything
- 10 minutes to complete a survey brings back memories of filling in little bubbles for test in school. who wants to do that?!?!
i’m now sure what they were thinking. they weren’t thinking wiift (what’s in it for them?)
i am sure i’m not the only one who was willing to row and complete their survey until we found out how long we had to row.
just because we (as business owners), need something from our customers, doesn’t mean they’re going to give it to us (no matter how loyal they are). who wants to spend 10 minutes answering boring questions? i don’t.
i always want to know wiffm? (what’s in it for me?) yeah, skype could be collecting information to improve sound quality, customer service, etc. but wiifm is not explicit and does not persuade me to give them 10 minutes of my time. i don’t care if they “love getting feedback.”
as a business owners, we should ask ourselves, before asking our customers
- wiift (what’s in it for them?)
- do they know what’s in it for them?
