diets, twitter and roi

weight loss spammers love twitter!

i know because i created @StartUpDiet on twitter over a year ago. i created the account to be my private diary so that i could document my entrepreneurial journey, but business got the best of me :)

long story short….i forgot about it. then i recently checked the email account that it’s linked to and peeked in the spam folder (something i never do). i was amazed to find hundreds of notifications from twitter informing me that i had new followers.

i clicked on one of the links in the email and it took me to the (@StartUpDiet) profile. at the time, i had only tweeted once but the account had over 500 followers. after taking a quick peek at the followers, and pretty much found spam accounts pushing weight loss promises.

and i briefly wondered what would happen if i created an @OhMeSoHorny account?

now, it’s not like i really care, but, it makes me wonder why people even waste time or energy to create these bots that automatically search for certain words. they have to be getting something out of it. right?

there has to be at least 1 person out there (out of all the thousands of people who block them) who clicks on one of the links and/or makes a purchase from them.

i think organization who want to know more about social media’s roi (return on investment) should hire a spammer instead of those leading social media authorities to be their consultants.

so.

how many licks does it take to get your roi?

(note: don’t worry. i checked. the @OhMeSoHorny account does not ((curently)) exist. i know! i was surprised too! so if you find this post in the archives…i had nothing to do with it.)
