if you haven’t already done so, one of the easiest and free things you can do for your business and reputation right now (today) is create a google profile page.
this is especially true for those who don’t have a website. a lot of people i know don’t have websites, but they have online footprints across various social networks. creating a google profile page is free and will give all of your online profiles a home.
even if you have a website, i still think this is something that you should do. not only will it help you gain a bit of control over what happens when someone googles your name, but makes it easier for people to find you online.
so, if you’re out there trying to gain some online footing, promote an event or increase your online ranking, setting up your google profile pages is a great place to start.
side notes:
- you really should google your name or business name (even your online handle). you never know who is looking ‘at’ you for a possible business opportunity. if you google your name and find some craziness that really has nothing to do with you – you really need to get on this.
- there are several different ways to consolidate your online info. a google profile page is only one (but provides other benefits). an alternative that you may want to take a peek at is GizaPage.
- once you have created your profile, try using your google profile page as the info link on your favorite social network (like on twitter). if you don’t have a blog or website, please don’t force people to go to your myspace page to find out more about you. trust me, it’s usually a deal breaker.
- intermediate note: this may not be the way you want to go if your using something like twitter to analyze your site traffic or track a campaign
so if you’re just starting out, just googled yourself and zilch (or unprofessional information) came up, you may want to take a second and create a profile. like it or not, this is the first step many (with money in their pockets to spend) take when trying to find someone to provide a service.
